in a provincial town outside of Rio de Janeiro, there lived a doctor who just could not get enough of Science. For Dr Simão Bacamarte, every brain, every phenomenon was worth dissecting. To satisfy his curiosity, the doctor persuaded his local council to build an insane asylum. It was a beautiful, many-windowed building with green shutters. The townspeople called it the Casa Verde, or Green House.

"Greenhouse" is a live performance adaptation that heightens O Alienista's absurd humor and joy, while revisiting Machado's nuanced interrogation of crimes committed in the name of science. The show features an original score and an interlude of new short plays and poetry. Guests are encouraged to commune with the performers throughout the night.
